Baum und Pferdgarten

Profiling the essence of Baum und Pferdgarten, where fun prints and colours are paired with functional everyday silhouettes, the sandals have been crafted for performance and longevity and yet are eye-catching and lively.”

Baum und Pferdgarten is excited to partner with South African footwear brand, Shaka for Pre-Autumn 2022.

Shaka’s philosophy of creating footwear for any terrain proved to be the perfect match for the Pre-Autumn 2022 collection ‘Post-Modern Explorer’. Baum und Pferdgarten’s collection is inspired by the 1912 painting A Mountain Climber by Jens Ferdinand Willumsen, a ground-breaking piece of art that challenged both the traditional representation of women and the painting style of the era. The artwork powerfully depicts a lone woman standing on a hillside gazing across an Alpine landscape — a monolithic mountain behind her surrounded by clouds and trees. For contemporary standards, her depiction was shockingly new, mixing a loose silhouette with elements from the menswear wardrobe. This union with nature and the meeting of feminine and masculine was the starting point for the collaboration between the two brands.

Designed with both the city and the forest in mind, the sandals are a more graphic, clean take on Shaka’s classic trekker sandals. Rendered in a vibrant green and a bright blue, the tonal colours of each style sit differently on the materials of the shoe, creating a sense of depth. Both colours reflect the palette of the collection, but the blue holds a special place for Baum und Pferdgarten, giving their signature blue a new sense of vibrancy. A cleverly crafted special edition logo that combines the signatures of both brands is a playful and subtle embellishment.
